Stormzy’s ‘Shut Up’ leaps 99 places to beat X Factor winner in UK Singles Chart

Rising grime MC Stormzy has leapt 99 places up the UK Singles Chart with his freestyle single ‘Shut Up’, to beat X Factor winner Louisa Johnson, who has achieved the lowest chart entry position for an X Factor winner in its 12-year history.

The single, which reached number 8 in this week’s chart, beat Louisa Johnson’s cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’ by one place.

‘Shut Up’ started climbing the charts after Stormzy played British boxing heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua into the ring in his fight against Dillian Whyte on Saturday (December 12).

Stormzy himself then launched a campaign to get the single to Number One for Christmas next week, and bookies slashed odds of the feat to 10/1 – ahead of Adele’s ‘Hello’ (25/1), but behind Louisa Johnson’s ‘Forever Young’ (8/11).
